My brain is melting from staring at hexdumps.........

http://vndb.org/v494

The text is in Shift-JIS encoding, and the game starts with script 6100.txt.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14481569/sapphism.zip

Staring at hexdumps managed to get me this far, but there are still two things missing: I don't know what order these scripts go in, and there's no indication of who's speaking, so I recommend that translators play through the game first.

Of course, if not being able to tell who's speaking is a problem, I'll try to fix it, but I can't make any guarantees.

Should I provide a link to the actual game too?

What's the engine this game is working on, strawberry? If you don't know, what's the file type of the file where you extracted the script?

If it's the same engine liarsoft usually use like in Kusarihime or Inganock or Sharnoth, maybe asking about Amaterasu's tools to see if it's compatible with this might help.

Also there should be an accurate linecount of the script to give an estimate of how much text the game actually has, to give the people working on it more knowledge of what they're getting into.

Maybe pass me the original game file where you extracted the script from, and I'll see if I can enslave someone to do this.

>What's the engine this game is working on, strawberry?

It's largely the same Liarsoft engine (xfl archives, gsc scripts, wcg images), although I downloaded one of Amaterasu's patches and found some discrepancies (gsc header size of 36 vs 28 bytes, for example).

>If it's the same engine liarsoft usually use like in Kusarihime or Inganock or Sharnoth, maybe asking about Amaterasu's tools to see if it's compatible with this might help

I've managed to break the script format (and write a tool that can extract/inject translations - The output from that is what I uploaded), but yes, I'm still stumped over the image format.

>Also there should be an accurate linecount of the script

cat *.txt | grep '^>' | wc -l

Although as >>214 brought up, someone already translated... 557 lines. Well, it's a start.

>Maybe pass me the original game file where you extracted the script from, and I'll see if I can enslave someone to do this

We should also probably have more than one translator...

>> No.307

Hey guys, sorry I'm late to the party. Original translator here. I would be very happy to help out, but that comes with a couple of caveats. One, between work, life, and my other personal projects, I'm kinda short on free time, so I can't guarantee many hours per week to work on this. Two, I haven't done much of anything with this game or Japanese in general for a couple years now, so I am hella rusty. So in summary, I'll give you what I can, but you're definitely gonna want more than just me working on this.

>> No.316

I'll align SnG's translation to the script files.

>> No.317

I've noticed some odd line splits.

For example in 6102.txt

There is a line in the game that reads:
いや……まさか……!

And in the script file it looks like:
いや

>

……

>

まさか……!

>

>>317
This was a conscious choice. Some of the lines have effects coded mid-line (ex: font size and text speed changes), so I'm using those as line delimiters so that you don't have to worry about accidentally deleting them. Rest assured that they'll be merged back in properly.

>Is there a way to add newlines to the translation in some way?

For the most part, the forced newlines seemed to be there so that the engine wouldn't line break in weird places. You can add newlines with ^n, but right now this will break the automatic newliner in my patcher - I'll get to fixing that.

I'm looking at 1011, and was wondering: what's the stance of localization in this project? I suppose honorifics are to be kept, but what about terms like お嬢様?

>> No.533

>>529
A search through wiki http://wiki.yuriproject.org/doku.php?do=search&id=お嬢様 showed お嬢様 occur very few times. So you can either put Ojou-sama like the previous translator did, or translate them all to Milady. They can easily be changed when we do final script check.

>> No.534

>>533

Alright, I'll just translate as I want and leave it to the script checkers.
Just want to do some standardization of uncertain names:
アンリエット -> Henriette? I noticed an Anriette somewhere, but seeing as Anri seems to be slightly French, I think a French pronunciation of Anriette is suitable.
ファン・ソヨン -> Fan Soyoung/Soo-young/Soo-Yon; I'll just put whoever tells me whatever for this one.

I did 6200 and 6201, and I'll post them when I'm on my computer. Leaving all of Anri's French interjections in
French.

I'll probably go on to the 1*** series next.

>> No.535

I agree with that change. These names came from wikipedia, but they definitely didn't use a source, since Eliza's name was initially misspelled.

Just not much posts on the forum.

Which brings me to my next point: I'm too busy to play the actual game, what with juggling this, some novel translations, work, and other things, so some translated lines might be blatantly out of context, (sometimes I can't tell who's speaking, or even if it's narration or not.) I'll be relying on proofreaders and such to catch any such errors.

We'll see how efficiently we can get this done, since I've just been translating with some spare time on my iPod. Of course, it'd be nice to have a few more translators that've actually played the game before, to PR as well as translate.
